Eagle
A sketch by “Sketch”
This sketch, created by Drew "Sketch" Miller, an incarcerated artist, is a partially colored depiction of a majestic eagle. The eagle's features are rendered with a mix of precise lines and loose, flowing strokes. The eyes are detailed and piercing, conveying a sense of strength and vigilance. The feathers are depicted with sweeping lines, giving them a sense of texture and movement, as if ruffled by the wind.
The sketch captures the texture of the eagle's plumage through subtle shading, adding depth and dimension. The use of various shades of black, gray, and a touch of orange creates a striking contrast, making the details of the eagle stand out against the pale background. This piece highlights the artist's ability to balance realism with a touch of abstraction, showcasing both the physical form and the commanding presence of this noble bird.
What Drew said of the piece: “This was ordered as a commission and we’d just narrowed it down to this pose (I never could get the spread wings to look right), just before lockdown. John, the guy who wanted it, died during COVID. It really burned through us in here and no one seemed to know what to do. Ironically, John didn’t believe it was anything serious, and he didn’t make it. I didn't know where to send it, but if his family wants to reach out, it’s theirs.”
Because we do not have consent from this artist to reproduce his work, this is not available as a print.
