Incidental Occurances

Inspiration for this piece came from the need to assemble something evocative of movement and memory, of messages and shared journeys.

The collage materials all come from bits given to me by friends. These materials have a personal resonance I hope will translate to the viewer and inspire others to make new journeys as well.

The apple is papier-mâché and the collapsing origami box can easily be opened and closed to conceal a note or other such whimsy. The stamps are all genuine and come from around the world. The one from Denmark is especially meaningful to me.

The origami box is constructed of upcycled, heavy cardstock and yarn, while the maps and apple are all made from materials given to me by a fellow artist. The portrait is of me as interpreted by that artist. All accent paint is acrylic.

This piece's backing is bristol paper mounted on upcycled cardboard and is painted with oils.
