Crash/Launch
Crash/launch is part of the “Flight” series, wherein I’m trying to re-create the shape of flight. I wanted to show something in motion and, while I was doing it, I managed to ruin it. After whitewashing, and starting basically from scratch, it looked like something like an iceberg. I was not a fan.
When I started working on it again, I used pots of donated and abandoned paints from other projects, I hate seeing things go to waste. I’m all about the upcycle. I started to see what appeared to me to be the booster stage of a rocket, or something piling into the ground. I started playing with both of those shapes simultaneously.
I enjoy the sense of movement and the idea that this image can be viewed from multiple different angles, and is equally valid in each instance.
Medium: Acrylic and oil paints on up-cycled/recycled packaging and food containers.
